Vietnam reports outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in north: OIE

Vietnam has reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu among backyard birds in the northern province of Ha Nam, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said, citing a report from the Vietnamese farm ministry. The virus was detected at a backyard location with 1,135 birds. It directly killed 300 birds, with the rest of the flock slaughtered, the report said

Zimbabwe reports H5N8 bird flu at poultry farm: OIE

Zimbabwe has reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu at a commercial poultry farm in Mashonaland East province, the World Organization for Animal Health said. The virus was detected on a farm with 2m birds in Lanark and killed 7,845 animals. Another 75,155 birds were culled, the Paris-based OIE said, citing a report from the Zimbabwe’s livestock and veterinary services

Panamanian government health officials were called out by the press for not formally notifying the OIE of an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis, which could put at risk both public health but also lead to restrictions on meat exports from the country. The government sat on the information for four weeks, claiming they were waiting to receive all the phyto-sanitary paperwork before doing so
